In case you missed it, Byron Donalds sat down with Donald Trump Jr. on his podcast “Triggered” for a wide-ranging conversation on insurance costs, his roots in the Republican Party, what it means to preserve the Florida way of life, and more.
Trump Jr. opened the show by framing just how much is riding on the race. “Down in my new adoptive home state of Florida, there is a race going on that might be the most important Governor’s race in America,” said Donald Trump, Jr. “In February of last year my father gave Byron the complete and total endorsement to be the next Governor of Florida and since then, the sheriffs are with him, the police chiefs are with him, most of the Republicans in the state legislature are with him.”
During the show, the two talked affordability, Donalds’ early days in politics, and why protecting Florida’s identity matters now more than ever. Laying out his plan to bring down insurance costs for homeowners and renters alike, Donalds stated: “We’ve got to get our insurance costs down. Everybody’s having to deal with it. We want to make sure that we’re changing up some of the regulatory tools to make costs go down for the people of Florida.”
Turning to the influx of people fleeing states like California and New York for Florida, Donalds talked about the responsibility that comes with it. “It’s not just moving for a job or I’m just going to go retire now,” Donalds said. “I think that’s why we’ve been able to see people come down and understand that they have a responsibility to keep the place that they chose the way that it’s been.”
Byron also took time to warn Floridians not to be fooled by Democratic opponent David Jolly’s strategic mild campaign style. “He’s going to be running the same campaign that Abigail Spanberger ran in Virginia, the same one Katie Hobbs ran in Arizona, where it’s going to sound milquetoast,” said Donalds. “So he’s a Trojan horse, and I think it’s important for the people of Florida to know that.”
