At the Associated Builders and Contractors Florida East Coast Chapter, Byron Donalds continued his “Defending the Florida Dream Tour.” Donalds announced LaunchPad, an industry-driven workforce initiative designed to cut through bureaucracy, expand apprenticeship opportunities, and connect Floridians to high-paying, in-demand careers without the burden of tuition.
LaunchPad flips the traditional model of workforce development by putting employers, not government, at the center of the process. Through direct partnerships with Florida’s leading industries, the initiative will create streamlined pathways for students to move from the classroom to the workforce with little to no tuition costs and a clear plan for long-term success. Under the LaunchPad model, employers identify high-demand fields, and Florida responds by building the partnerships and pathways needed to meet those needs.
“Florida students deserve a direct path to a high-paying job, not a maze of paperwork and bureaucracy that slows them down,” said Byron Donalds. “LaunchPad is about training at the speed of business, connecting students to real opportunities, and making sure every young Floridian has the chance to earn, learn, and succeed without being buried in student debt.”
Under the LaunchPad initiative, Donalds will establish a coordinated, statewide effort to align high schools, state colleges, and employers with modern apprenticeship and work-based learning programs that reflect the needs of today’s economy. A dedicated task force within the Governor’s Office will work to break down silos across agencies, audit existing workforce programs, and eliminate unnecessary red tape that prevents students from accessing training opportunities.
The initiative comes as Florida faces a growing demand for skilled workers across industries including construction, aerospace, defense, and manufacturing. These are fields with hundreds of thousands of open positions that employers are struggling to fill. LaunchPad will serve as a direct bridge between students and these opportunities, ensuring training programs are aligned with real job openings, not outdated government frameworks.
By making Florida the national leader in workforce readiness and technical training, LaunchPad will also serve as a powerful economic development tool, attracting new companies, strengthening key industries, and ensuring the state remains competitive in a rapidly evolving economy.
